What it Takes to be a Bloomer

Availability for at least one 3-hour session each month

An arranging session includes site set-up, container prep, flower arranging and site clean-up. It is preferred that you can commit to doing most of these tasks to evenly distribute the workload.

Flexible volunteering timeframe

We usually meet on Monday mornings and an occasional Sunday afternoons, but periodically we receive flowers mid-week on very short notice. It is helpful if volunteers can be considered on-call in order to staff these sessions and/or are relatively flexible

Ability to help with duties other than arranging

Producing the second bloom arrangements takes a lot of behind the scenes work besides just the flower arranging. We ask that our volunteers are also able to assist with other duties including flower drop offs, can creation or other duties.

Must love flowers and enjoy working with them

This might seem like a no brainer but we work with a lot of flowers at second bloom! Things to consider are seasonal allergies, dislike for dirt/bugs (even arranged flowers have a bug occasionally) or dislike for flowers in general!

Come join us for an arranging session to see if being a bloomer is a good fit for you!

***If you’re not sure about joining us for floral arranging sessions, consider other volunteer opportunities–

  • Help us with the pick-up of donated flowers or the delivery of arranged flowers to our hospice partners.

  • Help us decorate the soup cans we upcycle into floral arrangement containers. Check out a tutorial on how to do that located on our volunteer page.
